Priyal Prakash is the designer kid on the block most of you wouldn’t have heard of. While she runs a small boutique in Shahpur Jat, her business is anything but small. Her designs are sold on Pernia’s Pop Up Shop and she is the go-to designer for all offbeat brides. If you love traditional, go on and skip this post. But if you’re looking for something different, she’s your girl.
When I had first seen a Priyal Prakash lehenga, it intrigued me. But I wasn’t going to put myself in it. It was for women with fashion-forward tastes, not someone like me. Then two years ago, I went roka shopping with my best friend to Shahpur Jat and we thought, why not try on a Priyal Prakash design and see how it looks. What a fantastic decision that turned out to be! Her lehenga looked drop-dead gorgeous on my friend, and I was converted to a fan for life. Priyal herself, of course, explains how her designs are not for every girl. Either you “get” her design aesthetic, or you don’t. I say – try it out on yourself, and there’s a good chance you will love it IF you’re looking for something that’s a breath of fresh air and unique.

Have you heard about it yet? The Make In India campaign?
Everything that has been made in India is being promoted under this campaign for the last few months, and of course, the biggest fashion designer names have found a prominent place on the pride-inducing list. There have been a handful of fashion shows to showcase the best of what designers have been making here locally, and Anita Dongre was the only one to have an entire fashion show solely dedicated to her wedding wear creations. What did that mean for the brides of India? A show full of beautiful gota patti lehengas and jackets to add to your trousseau wish list! It’s a bride’s lucky week, isn’t it? First a Sabyasachi Summer 2016 collection to browse, and now THIS!
The range of Anita Dongre evening-wear was made at her eco-friendly design headquarters in Vashi, Maharashtra. An imperial colour palette ranging from blush pinks to deep vermilions and soft powder blues to the magnificence of midnight Continue reading “If You’re A Gota Patti Fan, Anita Dongre’s Royal Wedding Collection Is Perfect For You!”
Masaba Gupta got hitched this weekend (here’s the whole story), and a couple of her “slightly” famous friends were in attendance. Who? Oh, you know, just Shahid, Sonam, Alia, Kangana…no biggie, really.
Famous or not, some of the celebrity guests came very well-dressed, and gave us some major wedding fashion inspiration.

I’M IN LOVE!
I recently fell for a little romance. It was a love so deep, I was most tempted to trade in my husband for…oh, I couldn’t choose which one! The lilac lehenga, or the pale blue gown…or that fiery red anarkali?
It was near-impossible to choose ONE, I’ll tell you that.
No prizes for guessing what I fell in love with – Shyamal & Bhumika’s new collection of the most delicately beautiful Indian wear, fittingly titled “A Little Romance”. With all the romantic hues of fiery red love to pale blues and soft lilacs, it’s a dreamy collection for the princess bride.
Breath-taking, gorgeous, stunning – even these sound like a bit of an underestimation to describe the sheer beauty of it all. The designers categorise this collection as “vintage and period couture with a timeless elegance. The designs will make heads turn, and it’s something out of the ordinary for your special day.”
I loved more than a dozen pieces, and put them all together for you to browse at leisure. The remaining 40 odd outfits from the collection, including pre-draped saris, lehengas, anarkalis and gowns are available right after the Top Picks.

I know, I know. There’s been a lot of “Best Of” posts lately. Technically, they are the “Best Picks”, so what else do you want me to call them?! Ugh. #bloggerwoes
After Amazon India Couture Week and BMW India Bridal Fashion Week, there was one weekend us bloggers got a chance to breathe (because AICW and BIBFW were back to back!) This blogger of yours, though, did not breathe enough that Independence Day weekend. It was spent thoroughly enjoying late nights and hectic days…with friends. Followed by a trip to Mumbai for work (post coming up next!) which then led to…illness. Yes, I’ve been sick. For a whole week. And I’m still only starting to get better, it feels. I’m exhausted, cranky, sleepy, achy all the time. Maybe I was overworked. I don’t know. I don’t want to talk about it.
I kept an eye on Lakme Fashion Week Continue reading “Best Bridal Buys from Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2015”
Well, under ₹46,000 to be precise.
Receptions. An event most of the Indian community still continues to have at weddings, even when the bride and groom are from the same city. I know there’s a small section of you who have started to do away with Receptions as a separate event altogether. Makes sense. You can just combine your wedding ceremony with the Reception. After all, when your pheras are done and you stand on stage to greet your guests as man and wife, having a separate Reception essentially means you’re going to do the same thing all over again. The workings of a combined Wedding+Reception is something I can talk about for an hour, so let’s leave that for another post!

Their spectacular wedding has taken over the blog this week – with photographs by Joseph Radhik lending stunning visuals to what was one of the best weddings of 2014. You’re still wondering – What was the Sangeet like? The Wedding? Shonan & Adesh had a dozen pre-wedding functions, and zooming out to give you a taste of the highlights of the rest seemed the right way to conclude their story. This is the last post in the series.
If you haven’t seen the previous posts, go back to them here – first, second, third, fourth and fifth.
Shonan & Adesh’s wedding was not only spectacular, it was also unique – with their thoughtful families and friends coming together to help them celebrate the best day of their lives with a lot of love, fun & creativity! While I heard all the stories the bride and the people involved in organising the wedding were telling me, I started to notice how certain details stood out. Things I’ll never forget – whether it was the awe-struck feeling of seeing an image for the first time, or the realisation of how beauty shines through small acts made out of love. These are 10 of those precious moments, that made their wedding truly unforgettable. Learn a little, appreciate the rest, and be inspired.

There was one big name missing from fashion week last month – Anita Dongre.
Lakme Fashion Week came and went, as did Wills India Fashion Week’s re-named avtaar – Amazon India Fashion Week. I did multiple “best of” posts for both, and was sure that Anita Dongre would make it to the Top Picks. But not a sniff of a spring-summer or autumn-winter collection by the designer, at either fashion week. Where is she?
Brides all over the globe have been waiting for what Anita Dongre has in store for us in 2015. Is there anything new in the works?

I might as well re-name this post to The Best of Payal Singhal, because hers was the only show I loved completely at Amazon India Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2015. For the first time, I loved not just the wearable pieces, but also those statement-making ones that leave you wondering who would wear that off the runway. Yes, I loved those ones too.

This is the second post in the Best of Lakme Fashion Week series. The first one on the best saris and suits can be found here.
Out of the 80+ designers who showcased at Lakme Fashion Week, only a handful created lehengas I loved. This didn’t come as a surprise because the Summer Resort edition doesn’t really scream bridal, and since lehengas are essentially wedding wear, there were limited options to pick from anyway. Here are the few I loved most for summer and beach weddings.
