Tarun Tahiliani at BMW India Bridal Fashion Week 2015

I will be honest. I continue to remain rather uninspired, with all the fashion at fashion weeks this season. The only 3 designers who have sparked a little (or a lot) inside of me have been Varun Bahl (at India Couture Week), Sabyasachi (at Vogue Wedding Show) and Anita Dongre (also at Vogue Wedding Show).

While working on the Vogue Wedding Show post (it will be up on the blog shortly), I dragged myself to Day 2 of India Bridal Fashion Week. All the shows till now have been nice, but nice isn’t good enough. I want AMAZING!

Ashima Leena kicked off Day 2 with a South Indian bride collection of silk saris and temple jewellery, and I found a few pretty pieces at Falguni & Shane Peacock’s show. The last show of the evening was Tarun Tahiliani’s, and I had some hope pinned on it. TT and I have never been BFF’s, we don’t share the same design aesthetic, but he always promises to give me atleast a piece or two he knows I’ll like. He’s a very practical man, and loves giving his brides and grooms what they need – and his most recent attempt has been to create light-weight silhouettes that still look wedding-worthy, and are, at the same time, easy and convenient to carry. Who wouldn’t appreciate his effort?!

The stage looked eerie, and a blogger friend commented, “What’s up with the Nehru Planetarium look?” His Couture and Bridal 2015 collection is titled “Our Eclectic New World” and the stage literally looked like a New World…in outer space. Ok, I didn’t exactly get the set design. But I love planetariums, considering how rarely we city peeps get to gaze at a starry night. So put stars into anything, and I’ll inevitably like it 🙂

Guide to Fashion Weeks 2014-15: Bridal Edition

Guide to Fashion Weeks in India 2014-15 Bridal Edition

And a little bit of Fashion Week 101.

If you are getting married in the next 6 months, and are looking to buy your wedding lehenga and trousseau now, you’re worried. The next set of Fashion Weeks are still 3-4 months away. Where are you supposed to research the latest in bridal fashion, so that you don’t accidentally end up buying a 2 year old style? That is, of course, if you care about that sort of thing.

Google baba?

Unless you have a friend who works at a fashion magazine, you’re going to be one hell of a confused bride trying to find the latest in bridal fashion on those 20 websites you’ve just googled. If you’re not a regular fashion week follower, you’re going to have a hard time keeping all the S/S, S/R, A/W shows from merging into each other and leaving you blurry-eyed.

Well, I am that friend. And that regular fashion week follower 🙂 And I put together a guide to all the freshest fashion from the last 12 months for brides. You’re welcome!

Jyotsna Tiwari at India Bridal Fashion Week 2014

Jyotsna Tiwari India Bridal Fashion Week 2014

My favourite show of India Bridal Fashion Week 2014 – Tarun Tahiliani. My second favourite? This one.

Jyostsna Tiwari took us for a romantic stroll under a night sky lit up with stars. Among cherry trees, we swayed to the music. Angels walked past in baby pinks and sky blues, tiny floral embroidery on nets and tulles. Dewy makeup, pink lips. French braids and messy buns. Suneet Varma at India Bridal Fashion Week

I was tweeting constantly during this show going on and on about how the theme was Greek. First off, my bad. Turns out it was Roman! Should’ve noticed the war Gods of Rome in the centre. Oops! Anyway, it turns out a lot of people confuse Greek mythology with Roman mythology because the Romans borrowed a lot from the Greek, so I shouldn’t feel like burying my head in a wall somewhere so that I can just die of embarrassment. Ok, who am I kidding? I’m still embarrassed! Especially because I love all things Greek and I should’ve picked up on the difference!

Any-hoo, the show was fabulous. Just as packed as Rohit Bal’s Continue reading “Suneet Varma at India Bridal Fashion Week”

Adarsh Gill at India Bridal Fashion Week 2013

thedelhibride Adarsh Gill India Bridal Fashion Week 2013

First of all, thank you for your patience while I gave my hand some much needed rest. It could do with a lot more, but for now, this will have to do. In other news, I’ve changed the rules of the How I Met Your Father giveaway slightly so do have a look! Back to how the first show on Day 5 at IBFW went…

I didn’t enjoy the Adarsh Gill show too much. While in the pictures a lot of the clothes seem really nice, in reality most of them looked like they’d OD-ed (overdosed) on bling. There was so much stonework – shiny & overpowering. I honestly began to wonder if bling was THIS back in action?

Not for me, though!

In addition to the generosity of bling, the show also saw some decent Western wear outfits. And the one good thing was Continue reading “Adarsh Gill at India Bridal Fashion Week 2013”
