  2. LOL!!! u had so many misconceptions abt CC!! Chandni chowk is d best-est place for wedding shopping. Wenever i visit CC, i make it a point dat i wear long kurtis wid jeans n shoes.
I dont knw, what range u have in mind but dont forget to check out Madan at Nai Sarak. they have some amazing lehengas but doesnt give too much discount.

There is one showroom in South Ex, its’ name…. ya, its Ushak Mahal something. Dey also have some nice lehegas which are not too blingy.

both 2 showrooms have classy pieces, and not chamki as u call it.

Om prakash, as u mentioned is also very reputed.

I have read about Lehenga house in CC also but not sure.

    Hope it helps 🙂

    1. Hi Amrit,
If you have very limited time between buying the lehenga and your wedding, don’t go to om prakash as they usually have only sample lehengas in stock and custom-make all lehengas to order. Your best bet would be to go to Frontier Raas in South Ex market (I haven’t been to Frontier Bazaar in Karol Bagh, although I’ve heard that’s equally good) as they will have ready made lehengas for you to buy asap. However, they will also take a few days to finish the lehenga for you and make any alterations required.
As for Sabyasachi style lehengas, I’ve seen copies at Frontier Raas but their starting range is INR 70,000-80,000 (i think).
If anyone else knows of any other places to shop for reasonably priced Sabyasachi copies, do let Amrit know!

      1. I placed an order for my wedding lehenga in April and they took their own sweet time to finally give me a trial on the 18th of June. Frontier Bazar, Karol Bagh…. they completely screwed up my lehenga… the sample they had shown me (which I had instantly fallen in love with)…the end product I received for trial was nowhere near as good as that. This despite the fact that they took 2 months, despite the fact that they are a very well known brand, and despite the fact that I didn’t compromise at all from my side on the budget…They showed me a lehenga I fell in love with and asked for a lakh for it and I paid them 50 k advance in April to make my lehenga. They could not, rather DID not replicate their own sample perfectly !! They reduced the width of the borders… the embroidery work was botched up… so much so that instead of the golden sequins used in the original, in my trial lehenga they had put ugly plastic white/transparent sequins…horrible…. i’m 2 weeks away from my wedding and in a state of complete panic!

    1. Hi! Om Prakash does keep a lot of Sabya style lehengas, since they are the most wanted kind of lehengas these days! They won’t be exact imitations, but definitely along the same lines. I believe you can get a good one in your budget, but don’t forget to bargain like crazy with them.

If ur budget is within 70k for lehenga, tell salesman 50k coz dey vl drag ur budget till 70k. Dis is my personal xprnc. I’m getting married in next 20days n I wz tensed how vl i find lehenga when my upper limit wz only 35k. N believe me I was so relieved when I saw beautiful bridal lehengas starting from 25k! I got my dream wedding lehenga for rs.40k which was originally priced @45k!! I didn’t do much of bargaining and nor too much roaming in CC. Just went to 2 showrooms n picked from 3rd.

    Hope this will help u.

i jst visited 3-4 shops. first Kala kriti which is on 1st floor, CTC, Dawar Sarees again which is on first floor n den Pakeeza.
Fabric and Color can be customised according to ur choice.
Kala Kriti had Bridal Red lehengas wid heavy works starting from Rs.12K as far as i remember. I didnt want Red lehenga so i skipped it. My next stop was CTC, which had Red, fuschia, orange heavy dabka lehengas starting from 22K or so.
Dawar Sarees had designer lehengas, which i quite liked.

Madan @Nai sarak also stock some gorgeous lehengas but i hv not visited it but seen brides wearing its’ creations. and i must say, Madan is good too.

        Hope it helps.

  10. Hi Brides…
I went to Om Prakash Jawahar Lal after reading this blog and searching hell lot of lengas in CC.Lehngas are good, really different and unique but the cost is really high comapred to other shops in CC.I went there and told them my budget is around 50-60k and two guys started showing me lehngas which where old fashion but after knowing my taste he showed me a red velvet lehnga which was very very unique, basically it was not in a typical format of lehgas with 8 or 10 kalis showing same pattern…It was made up of Swarovski crystals and with flows and stems all over the lehga and when I asked the price he said its for 84 K and when I tried to bargain which is so common in CC he started behaving weird….and started degrading and said “humare yaha 50-60k sey starting hoti hai…your budget is too low”..that uncle was really rude and cunning and he was infact making weird faces…..really bad experience. Will never go there again.(Actually felt like yelling at him but I didnt 😦 ….)
I might have bought that lehga if that uncle have not used those pinching lines.BAD BAD experience.

    1. Hi Kriti, even my sister-in-law didn’t have a good experience at OPJL. A similar thing happened with her where the sales person she interacted with was a little rude. I think there are 1-2 people who work at OPJL who don’t make the shopping experience pleasant, but the rest of them seem to be decent. The one who I met, and through whom we got mine and my sister’s lehenga, was a really good sales guy. He gave us realistic expectations, and actually made the whole process relatively smooth for us. I say “relatively” because there’s always a little something that happens that will annoy you while dealing with wedding vendors (maybe it’s because of the emotional state we’re in while planning a wedding).

      1. I visited OPJ on saturday with a lot of high expectations. The lehengas they showed us were very pretty, but the one i liked was in a real bad shape… because of the rough handling and wear and tear the work had all come out.. so it was difficult to visualise the final product that would come out. i told the sales guy to show me a few more lehengas which were not in such a bad condition as it makes the task of visualising the end product so much easier. the guy simply walked away and said he has showed enough and if i need to decide i should choose from the ones already shown to us. the lehengas are no doubt beautiful, but some people at that shop need a lesson in basic courtesy.

        1. I also had the same issue with my lehenga – it was torn with the work coming out, and I took a chance with the final product because the sales guy assured me. It turned out perfectly fine though, so I’m glad. But yes, even I had a hard time visualising. And some of them really do need that lesson!

I wish I had seen these posts earlier… literally the one thing they dont do is laugh openly when told them the budget of 30-35k … they quote their starting range as 60k and with that too they show some bad velvet stuff///// some were very good peices but then they all were 1.20 or 1+ lakh stuff….. too much dissapointed with OPJL.

    2. Good you did not buy it. I have got my bridal lehenga done from there. They were ready to customize everything at the time of placing the order. But when I saw the final piece, it dint have any customization work done apart from color. When I asked him to change to the work I asked for, he told me that it can’t be done now. After persistence from my side, he agreed with some degraded comments. I gave him the order in June and my wedding is on 6th oct. He has still not given me the altered lehenga and asking for an extra week. I don’t know if he will do the changes I have asked for. It is always good to have a back up option if you are placing an order at OPJL. One of my friends had to get a new lehenga in 10 days from some other place because OPJL dint get her lehenga made in time. And the guys who make you try the lehengas are cheap and I have to shout at a guy for misbehaving with me while helping me to wear the lehenga.

    1. Hi Shivangi. My sister got a turquoise bluish gota patti lehenga from Chandni Chowk for my wedding – from Om Prakash Jawahar Lal, and it was around the same range as your budget. You should def check it out, and if they quote more then ask them to reduce the amount of work on it. Sometimes, lesser work looks better, because the colours come out more beautifully. I have also asked this question on my Facebook page (it’s already getting responses) – https://www.facebook.com/thedelhibride/posts/598464846855181 Do check it out for other recommendations!

  14. After Reading a lot about OM Prakash J LAL, the first shop I went to , for my lehenga. Must say they really have very good designs . But , the down part is that it is costly, if ur budget is not that high. Their range starts from 40/45k, but in this range what is get is those typical stone wrk lehengas. If u want somethng nice, it will start from 60k (after discount, currenlty they are offering some 10/20 % discount).

and yes, if u tell them that ur range is 40k , they might just tell u that thy dnt have anythg and then not show u much of stuff. I had a similar range in mind, so i just asked them whats their range and asked them to show arnd 60 😉 ..

I really liked most of the designs and my parents decided on one which was arnd 60k. But since it was the first shop i went to, plus little overboard the budget. I holded off, though the sales guy almost convinced my parents to buy it.

Here are few things where u can save some money 😉
    1. Ask them to reduce the kali, for each kali u reduce thy charge 5k less.
    2. U can get the amout of work reduced and the price will come down.
    3. Of course bargain, u can save arnd 5k , i guess. May b more, depends on ur skills 😉 (Not sure though)

Also, here are few more shops u can visit, which after reading a loads of blogs i had shortlisted, but couldnt visit due to time shortage.

    1. Sudhir bhai Saree wale- Saw some amazing lenghas n sarees on window display
    2. Kamal Bhai
    3. Lengha House
    4. Madan

    Misc Info:
CC is really a nice place to shop. Loads of variety and u can get the lengha /top/dupatta customized as u want. U can choose between colors, fabric, color combos etc. Only thing is do visit when u have some months time, as they dnt have much of ready made pieces and take 1/2 months for giving u the lengha. They only stich the skirt and give u top to get it stiched. Many of u might b knowing this, but for few brides like me, new to all this, this may b helpful 🙂

Tiny Tip: Do check out their addresses from Just dial, note it or send to ur phone. It really comes handy, when u are going to a market , where u dnt have much idea about lanes etc.

  16. Hey.. I recently visited Asiana Couture(address : 655,katra hardayal, nai sarak CC) and found some very good stuff there. If you are looking for fine work & designer pieces(copies),would recommend this shop to everyone. You can also get some fairy kind one pieces for reception/sagan.They have stuff starting 30-35k and ranging upto God knows. But each of their collection is unique in itself.I went in Sep13 and they are taking orders for Jan 14 wedding so gals hurry up!

I am shopping for my sis who is in US and my plan is to atleast buy two-three pieces from there.

My response on few other shops that I visted:

1 Kamal Bhai- Too expensive;their collection is awesome however. The designer sarees their start from 25k.

2 Kohinoor Plaza -Not much variety but yes few lehangas were really good and you can get a nce lehange if your budget is less than Rs40k

3 PP sarees – some good collection within 50k.It deals in lehangas only.

  22. Om Prakash Jawahar Lal(OMJL) Feedback- Their shop and the salesman are super over rated and arrogant. After reading your blog and getting to know about them from a lot of other people, I happened to visit them with my in-laws. Lehenga shopping is considered to be auspicious in our country and no one wants it to start like this- The way their salesman behave is very uncouth and unpleasant. They want you to buy from the pieces they are showing. Well, we all have a different taste and choice, this particular guy(working there since 30 years and I am completely forgetting his name) started shouting at us because apparently he had the audacity to get ticked off that we did not like any Lehenga. Excuse me- Arent you a salesman and were you told during your hiring process to tolerate and be calm with your customers. Lehenga is like the most important thing which you cannot afford to mess around with- no compromises whatsoever. Anyway, that frivolous salesman entered into an argument with us and we walked off their so called famous store for Lehengas and so did a couple of other people before us because they did not like his variety. They never had any out of the box lehenga in the first place, secondly as far as copying a lehenga is concerned there are so many workers in Chandni Chowk who would do that for you, all you have to do is give them a sketch or a photo of the design. The Lehenga variety at OMJL is not what I would recommend anyone to buy. My next update would be on where I finally bought my lehenga from–:) ty

      1. RCKC in paranthe wale gali- Least interested salesman for low budget lengha and 4-5 pieces to show ,all with stone work.
      2. 777 on main road- nice collection even in mine range , options for customization of colours, happy going salesman and good lenghas for other occasions and for your sisters as well.

      3. Couldnt gain entry in to OPLJ becaise of heavy rush and when i said my budget they simply said range starts from 60 onward so i land up at Maharani sarees in the same katra (naya Katra) with help of an agent. It is actually a good shop with lotz of variety in this range , some stuff you will find same as those in showrooms. Also good for light lenghas.

      4. Anarkali Bazzar (opposite Haldiram) i found it to be the best. They had variety in all ranges and they also keep replicas of designer stuff.
      Totally worth going.
      5. Pakeeza Plaza- i found it overhyped , nothing great for my choice but the shop is very popular, good for 40+ ranges.
      6. Kalakriti- for 50k+ lenghas good designer types collection.
      Awesume saree collection though.

      7. Guru Kripa (on main road) – Regular lenghas that you will find everywhere, but at reasonable prices.

Now having seen few shops i have learnt that net lenghas with stone work are cheapest starting anywhere from 9k , then it comes to gota pati, antique , thread, i.e less chamki work on net till 30K , then on raw silk higher ranges.
The stuff u see on raw silk can be done on net also and will be like 3000 less.

  31. I am getting married in February and have been following your blog religiously for a few months now. I don’t have a big budget for the wedding yet I wanted something exquisite, classy looking and traditional at the same time. I’m not too much into the bling either. I started my search with cc and desperation led me to south ex (frontier raas, ushnak mal and the likes) and shahpur jaat but I ended up in cc again after not finding anything different apart from the insane prices. Cc is where I ended up buying my wedding lehenga from. I saw tons of nice ones at sushi bhai and finally bought it from pakizaa.
I got my engagement lehenga from Tek chand and I’ve got 2 lehenga made from them already. While their price range is affordable (20-25 for light and 40ish for slightly heavy) I experienced that Neither one of th lehengas turned out the way I wanted. They tend to mess up the colours.
While my wedding lehenga is traditional (bandhni) I need desperate help for my reception outfit !
Where do you suggest a budget bride could go for something elegant classy and yet not too expensive?
