This Delhi Designer’s Summer Couture Collection is Incredibly Gorgeous!

It’s fashion week season! While we wait to hear the verdict on Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2016 that kicked off last night, a few designers (both big and small) have decided to launch their collections off the biggest runways. This is the first in a series of posts about new collections to look forward to as we bring in the summer of 2016. Sue Mue is a little known designer wear store in Delhi’s Green Park market. Why is this a market you’ve probably not heard of if you live outside Delhi? Because it’s typically reserved for visits to buy groceries, get a haircut or grab a quick meal at one of the handful of eateries located here. Nothing to talk about, really.

But sitting comfortably in the centre of this South Delhi market is Sue Mue, a designer wear store that looks enticing from the outside but will give any bride second thoughts about entering to do some serious wedding shopping. Why? Because you’d wonder – what could a Green Park store possibly have to offer that’s worth a visit?

Ever so often, I will stumble upon a fascinating new store online, and what do I find? It’s located in Meherchand Market. Bang next to Lodhi Colony, this market has been around for a long time, but it’s only over the last few years that designer boutiques, both big and small, have cropped up alongside cute hangout cafes. Suddenly, it’s a nice spot to shop for your wedding, minus the crowds of more popular markets such as South Ex.

But no one really knows too much about Meherchand market. Ask a Delhi-ite what are the best stores to shop at, and they are likely to wrinkle their foreheads trying to remember that one name someone told them about recently. So, of course, I knew I had to put all the brides’ questions to rest. The Ultimate Guide to Wedding Shopping in South Ex

Everything you needed to know about Wedding Shopping in Delhi’s famous South Ex market

Ask anyone in Delhi – which are the best markets in Delhi to do some bridal shopping – and South Extension is guaranteed to be in their top 3 list. But if you’re not familiar with the market, shopping at South Ex for the first time as a bride can be an overwhelming experience.

Aunties and relatives will give you their own version of “beta you must shop at this store” and suddenly you have a list of 20 stores to visit, and no clue about what the specialty of each store is. You will head into the market on Day 1 expecting to get everything done in a single visit, and realise after 7 visits that there are still a dozen more shops on your list and you’re nowhere near completing your trousseau shopping!

Well, calm down already. I have lost count of how many times I’ve been to South Ex for bridal shopping – either for myself or a friend or a cousin, and after years of “wedding research”, I’ve put together the most extensive list I could possibly put together in a single post.

TDB Loves: Shahpur Jat’s Abhinav Mishra & His New Collection

I spotted a lehenga online last year, and it stopped me in my (digital) tracks. It was everything I always look for in a lehenga – light, pretty, and reasonably priced. And it was marked as an Abhinav Mishra design. Who is Abhinav Mishra? And why hadn’t I heard of him?

A quick Google check showed his store was located at Shahpur Jat. Interesting, I thought, that there are still stores in Shahpur Jat I don’t know about. I’ve kept track of his work for over a year now, and watched him produce outfit after outfit that I’ve loved. Consistently. I wasn’t surprised when Pernia’s Pop Up Shop introduced his designs to their online store in June this year. In fact, it gave me the confidence to start recommending him to brides. Getting listed on Pernia’s, after all, is a mark of approval on a designer’s quality.

Last Friday, I finally made my way into his Shahpur Jat store to look at the clothes in person, and see if it lives up to the hype that has had a whole year to build up in my head.
