Loving Anita Dongre’s Love Notes | A look at the best of her new collection

It doesn’t serve anyone for me to repeat what I’ve already said over a dozen times on the blog, so I will spare you the details of my love for the designs Anita Dongre creates. What’s new, though, is her summer wedding collection that’s written like “Love Notes” to another lucky generation of brides, grooms and wedding guests. The collection was showcased on the ramp at Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2016, and her Love Notes jumped at me like a fresh spring breeze that smelled of bougainvillea and felt like mulmul.

She stuck to her traditional Rajasthani roots with her signature gota patti embroidery, but added another dimension with bougainvillea prints and resham threadwork.

There was plenty to love in the 60+ outfits that made their way down the ramp… Continue reading “Loving Anita Dongre’s Love Notes | A look at the best of her new collection”

30 Favourite Finds at Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2016!

I’m a Lakme Fashion Week girl, any day. Why the tiff with Amazon India Fashion Week? Well…

One,

I don’t get it. Why does AIFW showcase designs for the NEXT season? I fail to get excited about full sleeves and warm silks while I’m sweating it out in Delhi’s heat. And by the time the next season is finally here, that post about favourites from AIFW is so deeply embedded in the archives, I don’t think most non-fashion fanatics will make the effort to look over it again. The excitement is greater if you’re showcasing clothes people will get to wear in the next 3 months!

Two,

I’ve never physically attended LFW, and knowing that it takes place in Mumbai has left me with some dreamy assumptions of how perfectly LFW gets executed. I assume shows start on time, people stand in queues to enter, no one pushes anyone and each publication has a reserved seat in the media section. I assume the bloggers get as much respect as bigger print publications, that no one sits on a seat meant for someone else, and that people in the front 3 rows don’t ridiculously click images with iPads (that annoyingly obscures the view of anyone sitting in the back rows!) Of course, these are all dreams of a fashion week I’ve never actually attended. If you have, tell me it’s all true! 😉

And even though Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2016 wasn’t specifically aimed at brides to be, I found plenty of beautiful clothes to love. Continue reading “30 Favourite Finds at Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2016!”

20 Favourite Outfits from Amazon India Fashion Week! Spring/Summer 2016

I’ve cribbed a ton during this season of fashion weeks. “Uninspiring” “disappointing” – I’ve hurled all sorts of adjectives at them. Compared to the rest of them, Amazon India Fashion Week’s Spring/Summer 2016 line was not half-bad. I’m not calling it exciting for brides, because there was (as expected) a very limited offering for wedding wear. But I still want to keep you abreast with the best of what AIFW had to offer to kick off our 2016 wardrobe, and there are a few pointers in here for the fashion-conscious bride.

Best Bridal Buys from Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2015

Best of lakme fashion week winter festive 2015 for brides

I know, I know. There’s been a lot of “Best Of” posts lately. Technically, they are the “Best Picks”, so what else do you want me to call them?! Ugh. #bloggerwoes

After Amazon India Couture Week and BMW India Bridal Fashion Week, there was one weekend us bloggers got a chance to breathe (because AICW and BIBFW were back to back!) This blogger of yours, though, did not breathe enough that Independence Day weekend. It was spent thoroughly enjoying late nights and hectic days…with friends. Followed by a trip to Mumbai for work (post coming up next!) which then led to…illness. Yes, I’ve been sick. For a whole week. And I’m still only starting to get better, it feels. I’m exhausted, cranky, sleepy, achy all the time. Maybe I was overworked. I don’t know. I don’t want to talk about it.

I kept an eye on Lakme Fashion Week Continue reading “Best Bridal Buys from Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2015”

Best of BMW India Bridal Fashion Week 2015

Best of India Bridal Fashion Week 2015

2 fashion weeks back to back = 1 exhausted wedding blogger.

While it’s been a fun 2 weeks, it’s also been a bit back-breaking. But still, FUN! *falls to the ground*

We’ve shared so much new fashion with you (from India Couture Week all the way to Vogue Wedding Show), but there’s one more big one before we take a break for the weekend – our favourite bridal wear picks from BMW India Bridal Fashion Week 2015 that wrapped up in Delhi this Tuesday. Go on, look at our Top Picks first, and then browse through the rest of the collections at the end of the post. 90+ outfits are in here, so take your time and see what IBFW had to offer to brides this year.

Tarun Tahiliani at BMW India Bridal Fashion Week 2015

I will be honest. I continue to remain rather uninspired, with all the fashion at fashion weeks this season. The only 3 designers who have sparked a little (or a lot) inside of me have been Varun Bahl (at India Couture Week), Sabyasachi (at Vogue Wedding Show) and Anita Dongre (also at Vogue Wedding Show).

While working on the Vogue Wedding Show post (it will be up on the blog shortly), I dragged myself to Day 2 of India Bridal Fashion Week. All the shows till now have been nice, but nice isn’t good enough. I want AMAZING!

Ashima Leena kicked off Day 2 with a South Indian bride collection of silk saris and temple jewellery, and I found a few pretty pieces at Falguni & Shane Peacock’s show. The last show of the evening was Tarun Tahiliani’s, and I had some hope pinned on it. TT and I have never been BFF’s, we don’t share the same design aesthetic, but he always promises to give me atleast a piece or two he knows I’ll like. He’s a very practical man, and loves giving his brides and grooms what they need – and his most recent attempt has been to create light-weight silhouettes that still look wedding-worthy, and are, at the same time, easy and convenient to carry. Who wouldn’t appreciate his effort?!

The stage looked eerie, and a blogger friend commented, “What’s up with the Nehru Planetarium look?” His Couture and Bridal 2015 collection is titled “Our Eclectic New World” and the stage literally looked like a New World…in outer space. Ok, I didn’t exactly get the set design. But I love planetariums, considering how rarely we city peeps get to gaze at a starry night. So put stars into anything, and I’ll inevitably like it 🙂

Bridal Picks from Manish Malhotra | Amazon India Couture Week 2015

It sucked that we didn’t get invited to Manish Malhotra’s show. It was one of the 3 shows that took place off-site at Amazon India Couture Week, and for some reason, off-site = limited media entry. I overheard someone state matter-of-factly that only 30 Media Seats were available. Wow, that’s just great. But what about us bloggers, Manish? I thought our meeting earlier this year meant something to you.

I thought we explained what wedding blogs are to you, and you…you promised you wouldn’t forget! Is this how you repay us?! For the one hundred and eighty five seconds we took out of our busy lives to introduce the concept of wedding blogging to you?! *turns away dramatically*

Well, let bygones be bygones. Maybe next time we meet you’ll have a gift ready for me. You know, to make it up to me? A lehenga maybe. Well, alright alright. Don’t get angsty *rolls her eyes* Even a dupatta will do.

I need to praise your collection now. These brides na, won’t leave me alone even for 2 minutes to speak to MM. They want to see the pictures NOW. Off you go, M. I’ll see you next at the Vogue Wedding Show, darling. *air kiss* *air kiss*

Anju Modi at Amazon India Couture Week 2015

Anju Modi Amazon India Couture Week 2015

Although I cribbed about the lack of inspiration at Amazon India Couture Week 2015, one day that managed to leave us with some serious bridal wear favourites was Day 3. While Monisha Jaising gave us a fresh, young take on bridal wear with her Sailing Bride collection, Varun Bahl put up a grand show with the most elegant trousseau pieces out there.

But it was Anju Modi’s couture collection that truly kicked off the exquisite wedding line up on Day 3. Titled “Kashish”, the collection is inspired by a Persian bride’s wardrobe. Anju Modi continued her signature use of intricately and impeccably embroidered motifs, with the effortless layering only she can pull off. And with bright hues of pinks thrown in with beautiful yellows and soft blues – you can only imagine what a sight it made. Although, you don’t need to leave anything to the imagination. Here are all the images, and our favourites, for you to see. Continue reading “Anju Modi at Amazon India Couture Week 2015”

Varun Bahl at Amazon India Couture Week 2015

This was my favourite show at Couture Week – my absolute favourite. I’m obsessed with the images – zooming into the details feels like a visual treat. It was…delicious, if I may.

Firstly, Varun Bahl called this collection “Song of the Flower”. Flowers in couture? Consider us hooked.

And you cannot believe the beauty of the floral embroidery, the soft shades, the dreamy designs  – I really, really loved it. It feels like you walked into a secret garden, and rolled around in an endless land of flowers.

Four pieces made the cut to our top picks. Continue reading “Varun Bahl at Amazon India Couture Week 2015”
