I have visited a handful of wedding exhibitions in the past, but had always missed out on Wedding Asia for some reason or the other. Not this year, though. Wedding Asia was scheduled into my planner weeks in advance, and I really wanted to go see if there was anything worth visiting for.
And just like all the other wedding exhibitions, Wedding Asia is another great one-stop shop for discovering wedding designers and jewellery makers from all over the country. Heading in at 11 am is always preferable, because most exhibitions start to get really crowded and cramped for space after 2 pm.
This time around, my team and I were not able to go through every single stall, but we still picked out the best of what we did see. These were some of the note-worthy vendors we did come across –
Jewellery
Sanzany | Mumbai
We loved SO MANY designs! This is exactly the kind of place where a bride needs to go. They will customise the jewellery in any way you want, since they are manufacturers. They come to Delhi for exhibitions and personal appointments almost every fortnight, so even though they are Bombay-based, you can easily see their work. Lots of polki on gold – which continues to remain a hot favourite among brides. Tons of variety. Love it, love it, love it. Absolute must-visit.

They had some nice gold jewellery. We especially loved the this gold bangle with an intricately carved floral design.

Trousseau
Madhu S | Mumbai
They have some very pretty, light outfits and dupattas. I loved these semi-formal suits that had a floral print layer peeping from underneath a sheer lightly embellished fabric in a couple of colours. This one was our favourite. You can easily wear it to one of your friend’s Mehendi functions, or even your own! And such a good keep for your trousseau – to wear to all smaller pre-wedding events. Priced at INR 9,500.

Amit Talwar | New Delhi
Spotted a very heavy anarkali in such a striking shade of red that we couldn’t help but find it an attractive choice for a bride. This one has some serious embroidery, and is therefore heavy weight-wise as well. I can just imagine a bride wearing this on her big fat Indian engagement, or even reception (if she hasn’t already worn red on her wedding day). It was priced around INR 60,000.

Anju Agarwal | Kolkata
This was a pretty stall, with so many pretty designs for girls! Peaches and pinks, tiny floral motifs – it was quite pretty! Ok, I’ve said pretty one too many times already now, haven’t I? Things we loved – this peach anarkali with floral embroidery (INR 9,950). And this pink lehenga sari (INR 38,000) that wasn’t draped properly so don’t judge it by what it looks like in the picture. Also spotted this lovely peach sari hanging around, looking a little bit like a light Sabya style sari.

Aura Kreations | Mumbai
Really liked this light embroidered peach kurta – INR 6,500 with pants, INR 5,000 for just the kurta. This stall had lots of nice light suits. And it was well-priced, too! Also spotted a pretty floral lehenga they wouldn’t let us click a picture of. See if you can find it today – it was priced really well too!

Tassels | New Delhi
They had a lot of Sabyasachi look-alikes! Saris & lehenegas. This one sari looked like it was strongly inspired from his Couture week collection – it was so similar! I can’t believe there is a store in South Delhi that creates Sabya look-alikes. Not exact replicas, mind you – but similar to that style. If you want a Sabya aesthetic, go here. I can’t promise how alike they are though. Let’s just say…70%?

Lots of lighter lehengas one can wear to their mehendi function. Some with gota patti work. Light-weight, yet with enough embroidery and bright colours to make it to wedding wear category – easily.

Wedding Invites
Invitations by Raj Kapoor | New Delhi
Their absolute latest designs are these floral watercolour style invites, that had me crushing on them! If you have a bit of a bigger budget, you’d do good with these invites. Guests will be pleased to have such pretty boxes lying around their homes, instead of those typical ones they can’t wait to throw out after your wedding is over.

Pernia Qureshi Was Here!
Meera & Muzaffar Ali’s Kotwara launched their collection for Jaanisaar, the movie, starring Pernia Qureshi at the exhibition on Friday. Pernia looked beautiful in an ivory lehenga from Kotwara, and I particularly loved that blouse.
