And a little bit of Fashion Week 101.
If you are getting married in the next 6 months, and are looking to buy your wedding lehenga and trousseau now, you’re worried. The next set of Fashion Weeks are still 3-4 months away. Where are you supposed to research the latest in bridal fashion, so that you don’t accidentally end up buying a 2 year old style? That is, of course, if you care about that sort of thing.
Google baba?
Unless you have a friend who works at a fashion magazine, you’re going to be one hell of a confused bride trying to find the latest in bridal fashion on those 20 websites you’ve just googled. If you’re not a regular fashion week follower, you’re going to have a hard time keeping all the S/S, S/R, A/W shows from merging into each other and leaving you blurry-eyed.
Well, I am that friend. And that regular fashion week follower 🙂 And I put together a guide to all the freshest fashion from the last 12 months for brides. You’re welcome!
But first…
A Little Bit of Fashion Week 101
There are a couple of fashion weeks that happen every year:
- India Bridal Fashion Week (IBFW) – once a year
- India Couture Week (ICW) – once a year
- Amazon India Fashion Week (AIFW), that used to be Wills Lifestyle Fashion Week till recently – twice a year
- Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) – twice a year
These are the major fashion shows that, as a fashion-conscious bride, you should really really care about. IBFW and ICW showcase mainly heavy Indian wear, which is all relevant to brides to be. They have a limited list of designers so it’s easy to look at the latest in bridal wear by browsing through all the shows. On this blog, I typically pick out the best of these shows, and my absolute favourite outfits for brides.
AIFW and LFW, though, have 2 editions every year and with over 40-50 designers (sometimes even 80!) showcasing their work. That itself makes the task of finding basic pretty wearable outfits a headache. Add to that the fact that most of them are not going to showcase bridal wear, and you’ve got yourself some major bridal blues. And will you believe it if I say there’s one more layer to this confusing mess – LFW showcases collections for the latest season (so, they just wrapped up the Summer Resort edition for 2015), while AIFW’s latest show was Autumn/Winter because they showcase one season in advance!
Which reminds me, let me tell you what each of the acronyms stands for:
S/S – Spring / Summer
S/R – Summer / Resort
A/W – Autumn / Winter
W/F – Winter / Festive
On this blog, I will generally go through every single designer’s work from LFW and AIFW, and talk about only my favourite shows for bridal wear, and pick out the absolute best outfits for brides – from their wedding lehengas, to trousseau saris and even some honeymoon outfits.

Hi…This is a really helpful post!
I am getting married in November and I am stuck in the middle as you mentioned. Spring/summer would be overdone by November.
When do designers showcase their fall/winter collection for brides?
Are there anymore bridal fashion weeks coming up?
