Edit: This sale is back, and it’s now on till stocks last. New discount code to use: MSS50. Enjoy!
I woke up this morning to a mail from IndianRoots.in –
I thought – FLAT 50% off? Yeah, right. After hearing so much criticism of the recent Flipkart sale, “mega sale” and related phrases make me see red flags all over. I wasn’t buying it.
Still, as a wedding blogger, it’s my duty to check out a big sale for Indian wear, especially if it’s on a website that retails big designers such as Shehla Khan, am:pm and Rohit Bal.
I saw a * mark – turns out, the sale was applicable on EVERYTHING on their website, except Sabyasachi and Anita Dongre clothes (I know it says Anita Dongre in the image from their email, but since then they’ve been asked to remove AD from the sale for whatever reasons). Fair enough, but was it truly FLAT 50% on everything else?
YES.
This beautiful silk chanderi achkan by am:pm –
For ₹22,800 11,400.
This Rohit Bal lehenga?

₹2,74,990 1,37,495
after applying the coupon code Diwali2014

YES. It’s real!
And it struck me –
THIS IS SALE GOLD!
I must share this! Immediately! Because sizes are getting picked up, and that dreaded “SOLD OUT” stamp is starting to creep it’s way slowly all over the site.
Of course, a lot of you must be newbies to shopping online (as am I!) and if I’m not mistaken – we all hesitate to drop big bucks on shopping online. So we’re going to take baby steps together. If I had to shop for anything online, I’d like to limit it to ₹20,000. That too, it has to be something super formal to wear to either a wedding or to fashion week or something like that. Only then will I spend that much money on it, because I’ll wear it enough number of times to more than make up for the price.
And since IndianRoots sells a whole lot of other cute stuff that even someone who is not getting married would want to buy, I’ve included those too. Here we go then!
My Wishlist: IndianRoots Sale
Everything below ₹20,000 after discount!
For Your Mehendi
₹4,999 2,499
I thought this cotton silk skirt with a chanderi brocade top is such a cute (and cheap!) option for a simple Mehendi function. Bonus: you can use that top as a blouse with saris later!
₹4,999 2,499
Pretty yellow cotton silk dress that’s perfect for the bride to breeze through her Mehendi in. Definitely style it similarly – a flower in your hair, and nice big chaand balis. On a side note, I’d also wear it to fashion week.
For Your Trousseau
₹16,800 8,400
I own this! Bought it last year since it’s perfect for winter weddings, and…well…now you can get it for half the price I got it for. *stomps away and sits grumpily in a corner* Eh, good for you.
₹18,500 9,250
A silk chanderi kurta by Pratima Pandey that makes for a pretty summer pick for your trousseau. Love the floral pattern that peeks underneath the sheer fabric. LOVE IT. WANT IT. PLANNING ON BUYING IT.
₹18,800 9,400
It’s ice blue. Ice blue! I love this shade, and I’m starting to realise – am:pm just might be my new favourite brand for subtle, elegant Indian wear. Those of you who wear ethnic clothing to office, this one’s perfect!
₹21,000 10,500
Made from georgette by Karieshma Sarnaa, this cowl churidar kurta (is that what it’s called?) is everywhere these days. If you’re afraid of being too fashion forward, this makes a “low-key fashion statement” – and doesn’t that sound like an oxymoron if there ever was one!
₹24,000 12,000
Lucknowi-style pastel gorgeousness. Even 12,000 seems like a lot, but hey, if you can afford it – why not? An elegant trousseau pick, I say.
₹39,395 19,698
Stunning chiffon anarkali by Osaa. Wear it to the next wedding you attend.
Cute Dresses
₹2,500 1,250
For your summer destination honeymoon. I’m in love with everything floral these days.
₹2,800 1,400
ANS is one of my favourite brands, and since this dress is made out of cotton lycra – it should fit AWESOME. Bachelorette party dress?
₹3500 1,750
Fashion event pick for my fellow bloggers 🙂 This one is also by ANS.
Floral bag
₹1,699 850
Cute-sy little bag by Desi Drama Queen!
Note: The prices mentioned on each page are without discount. Once you go to the checkout page, use the code DIWALI2014 to apply the 50% discount on your total order. Sale is on till 17 October, 2014.

Okay…something has got to be said about their terrible customer service! They emailed about an 80% sale at 6pm, and 6pm rolls around…I keep refreshing…and nothing. I keep asking the customer service reps on the chat function, and they have no idea what to say.
On top of that, they advertise this huge sale but their servers just cannot handle the customer volume and now their website is essentially down….awful!

So sorry to hear about your experience, Pooja! The sale is on again, and this time it’s still stocks last. So I guess the servers won’t be overloaded. Did you try again in this round?

Hi, do you have feedback in regards to Anuja’s question? I want to order some a saree from this site but am a bit concerned about the quality of the pieces after the awful feedback on the web.

Hi Cathy, I ordered some stuff from Indian roots- it was a decent experience- more so coz i was already prepared that some things may not be up to the mark owing to the reviews. I ordered 6 things in total going majorly with cheaper one’s not willing to risk ordering something expensive. To give you a brief as to what i ordered and my experience with the same:
1. http://www.indianroots.in/black-silk-padded-blouse-with-gota-work
This one was pretty cool for its price and true to its fit
2. A pair of palazzo’s again from the brand Nika- true to its fit and colour.
3. A black georgette anarkali suit from the brand ‘Tiana’. The only reason i ordered it was because it was dirt cheap. The product was decent and as depicted in the picture, however it ran one size smaller. Luckily, it had enough margin so that the top can be opened up to fit one or two sizes bigger.
4. http://www.indianroots.in/grey-mangalagiri-cotton-jacket-65697
This one is my favorite purchase. Its from ANS and fits like a dream.
5. maheshwari silk unstitched kurta, salwar, duppata from the brand paramparik. Now this one was a disappointment – though the fabric was maheshwari silk it dint have the kind of sheen it depicted in the picture. Also, there were 2 stains in it.
6. http://www.indianroots.in/pink-and-orange-cotton-silk-chanderi-lehenga-set-52739
Overall the cut, the quality of material for this one was good- however, the picture depicts the shade of the duppata as mint green and that’s precisely the reason i got this lehenga instead of the one below, coz high nick colour blouses dont suit me that well.
http://www.indianroots.in/women/lehenga/red-and-blue-cotton-silk-chanderi-lehenga-set-52732
However, the duppata received with the lehenga was a bright parrot green in colour- no where close to mint/sea green.
As far as the timelines for delivery go, like the reviews mention – they dont deliver on time. Products which stated delivery within 14 days took a month and a half to deliver.

That’s for such a detailed and honest review, Anuja! I had also ordered a blouse and it arrived on time. Maybe it was a small order so there wasn’t anything complicated about it.

Ya, the order size could be a reason, though none of the six items i ordered arrived on time – all of them were delayed- though some by a week or two and others by a month. Neways the timeline should not be much of an issue unless of course ur order is for a specific occasion. Overall a pretty good site to order from – especially during their 80% n 50% off sale. 🙂
