I know, I’m late. I usually post about a fashion show the very next day. But since I was thrown head first into India Couture Week within 48 hours of returning to India after a 6 week intense course in New York, I made a conscious decision to not stick to my conventional blogging ways. Just for a while.

Continuing with the “doing things differently” policy till things settle on the work front, I’m presenting you with my first ever – Postcards from Fashion Week post. Mostly pictures, and very little talking. I have a lot of catching up to do with posts from the rest of India Couture Week, Tarun Tahiliani Couture Exposition AND Vogue Wedding Show. Let’s get started quickly then, shall we?

Anju Modi didn’t bother with too many shades. A muted colour palette. With a pop of gold running across the collection. If you’re looking for bright hues, this show wasn’t for you. But if you don’t mind pastel pinks, off-whites and an earthy feel – you might stumble upon a piece or two you love on this rustic road.

TDB’s Picks

This was the black velvet lehenga I’d shared on Facebook recently, that so many of you adored. The rest of it is really non-bridal, but that rich lehenga was more than enough to get this in our list of favourites.

Where to wear? Your sibling’s wedding.

I LOVE this soft pink lehenga. Ditch the blouse and shawl in favour of something more bridal.

Where to wear?  On your Sangeet, stand out amidst all the bright hues with this almost-pastel shade. Perfect Reception outfit for the ultra-sophisticated bride. Braided bun, big gold earrings and layer with a gold haar (beads on multiple-strings) over the jacket.

Where to wear? This one screams RECEPTION.

Such an elegant sari-blouse. A trousseau must-have.

LOVE these jackets with dhotis! The practically open jacket and tiny gold bikini make it a bold choice though.

Where to wear? Perfect for anyone who wants to make a style statement, throw this on for your friend’s Sangeet. Finally, a bridal red! With a touch of whimsy added by CARRIAGE motifs. Made me swoon. I didn’t like what the lehenga was paired with though, so I left it out of the picture.

Where to wear? Your wedding. Those of you who scoff at the thought of wearing such a “light” lehenga on the wedding, there ARE brides who will. So please step aside and let those brides day-dream about the perfect understated elegance of this piece.

I saw all these pieces again in person at the Vogue Wedding Show this weekend, and they’re as beautiful up close as they were on the runway. I repeat, though, that this show was only for those who like seriously understated elegance.
