Yesterday, I wrote a post on the Top 10 outfits worn by Madhuri Dixit-Nene on Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa that you can take inspiration from for your wedding trousseau, and even if you’re a wedding guest! It was a LONG post, and there were tid-bits of style advice strewn all over it. You know I love making it easy for you to have all your top tips in one place, so here’s a summary of Style Lessons For Brides from that post!
1. Leave that necklace at home if your blouse/yoke is already full of colours, patterns and/or embroidery.
2. If you’re wearing bright colours, or a heavily embroidered outfit, keep the makeup super natural otherwise you’ll look OTT.
3. You can wear black in your first year of marriage (ok, that’s just me!)
4. Plain saris in bright fabrics with a golden border are still in. Buy a few for your trousseau!
5. Sometimes, chunky gold bracelets (one on each wrist, or a pair on one wrist) are all you need to accessorise your arms when in India wear.
6. Every bride must own a pair of big gold jhumkis. They go with most Indian outfits.
7. Experiment with blouse cuts and designs, so you have a variety in your trousseau. Sleeveless, halter-necks and sheer blouses will make you feel your own age. Floral prints and mirror-work add a fun element, and are not cliched…yet.
8. It’s not necessary to wear only expensive metal jewellery, as sometimes something inexpensive like antique silver will be the perfect accessory for your Indian outfit.
