I was tweeting constantly during this show going on and on about how the theme was Greek. First off, my bad. Turns out it was Roman! Should’ve noticed the war Gods of Rome in the centre. Oops! Anyway, it turns out a lot of people confuse Greek mythology with Roman mythology because the Romans borrowed a lot from the Greek, so I shouldn’t feel like burying my head in a wall somewhere so that I can just die of embarrassment. Ok, who am I kidding? I’m still embarrassed! Especially because I love all things Greek and I should’ve picked up on the difference!

Any-hoo, the show was fabulous. Just as packed as Rohit Bal’s, the show saw a lot of “bystanders” this close to the runway! That ruined the view of many a photographer, but I was lucky enough to be so sweetly given yet another prime spot by the video and photo guys behind me. Yet again I had thought, chalo let me atleast try getting a view of the clothes, doubt I’ll get any pictures with so many people in front of me. And miracle of all miracles, the nice guys behind me created some space and allowed me to view the show from there! It’s all thanks to them that I was able to get you live-shots of the show on Facebook & Twitter. A BIG thank you to all the guys who got me that brilliant spot! THANK YOU SO MUCH!

TDB’s Picks

Who else loves the wreath inspired headgear in gold? I do! Ambika Pillai had shared a sneak peek at these on her Facebook page a few days before the show. No wonder I thought they looked familiar!

Is it a lehenga? Is it an anarkali? Whatever it is technically, it’s definitely yet another pretty white & gold ensemble.

Loved this red ensemble – 100% GORGEOUSNESS! Who else wants to wear this to their Sangeet?

My jaw almost dropped when Indrani Dasgupta came out in this red & gold work lehenga with a pink dupatta. It was truly traditional in every aspect, and SO stunning. If you’re getting married, get married in THIS!

Showstopper

Chitrangada Singh walked the ramp in a red and gold shimmery lehenga for Suneet Varma as his show stopper. She looked really cute, and Sunny (yeah he’s also my best buddy now :p) so graciously stopped every few steps to thank the people for attending his show. The nicest designer of the lot. I could also be biased because he’s the only one I actually spoke to. Oh, I didn’t tell you about that? Wait, wait. The Official Version

Suneet Varma, one of India’s famed couturiers, whose designs have been featured on the International and Indian carpet, both, presented his collection- ‘The Golden Bracelet’ on day 5 of the India Bridal Fashion Week.  He is the only international designer with ‘Judith Leiber’, and Suneet Varma for Judith Leiber minaudières are now being retailed across the world. Suneet’s collection- “ The Golden bracelet’ has been inspired by the clothing and lifestyle of Pompeii and is designed in the themes of Romance, Longing and Wedding. The art and architecture, story and grandeur of Pompeii has inspired many artists, writers and architects worldwide.

With roman paintings and sculptures depicted in the backdrop, the whole set created matched the theme of Varma’s collection. The models glided the ramp like some Roman goddesses in saris draped toga style. The first sub theme- ‘Romance’ of the collection was all about jewel toned, rich devour velvet line with gold metallic prints and rich beaded tassels. Sheer blouses with impressive embroidery at back, sheer dress with printed stole and intricate gold work, draped skirts with off shoulder corsets and maroon tunics worn with appliqué, halter and razor cut embroidered blouses, and printed velvet stoles were few highlights of this part of the collection.

The second sub theme- ‘Longing’ was all about the ivory and light blue line in long silhouettes with baroque pearls as adornment. It was a delicate and very subtle collection. Suits teamed with pants, bustier with intricate gold work teamed with sari, silk knits in multi layered floor sweeping dresses, tiered skirts in georgettes with corsets and net jackets, and stylized saris as a dress teamed with sheer blouses were the eye catching aspects of this part of the collection.

Lastly, the final sub theme- Wedding derived its inspiration from the poetic life of Pompeii. Floral appliqué saris and long dresses, metal crafted corset, anarkalis and saris in cutwork, lehenga with cutwork and frilled jacket, languid silhouettes in peaches and soft pinks, and tulle shrugs worn with lace corsets were star attractions of this part of the collection. The rushing and pleating techniques incorporated were symbolic of the long toga drapes and column dresses of that time.  The beautiful show was choreographed by Aparna Anisha Bahl and Tania Lefebvre.
