We roped in the extremely talented team at WDC to do a series of Ask The Wedding Planner posts with us. You ask all your wedding-related questions, and we get the experts to answer the top queries! Beginning…RIGHT NOW!
Today’s question is about Destination Weddings, so if you’re planning on having one, you probably want to read on.
You Asked
I want to have a destination wedding in India, but I think Goa and Udaipur are overdone. Are there any off-beat locations in India where I can consider having my wedding?
What The Wedding Planner Said
There are a number of destinations one can choose in India, other than Goa and Udaipur. Here are a few suggestions –
#1 Jodhpur for a royalty-style wedding
If you want the whole royal experience and don’t want to be in bustling Udaipur, Jodhpur is a viable option. Easily accessible from both Bombay and Delhi – the Umaid Bhawan is a beautiful place to be married in. The Mehrangarh fort is perfect for a night of revelry. You can even head out to the desert for the first night. If you want an offbeat place to stay in, The Raas is another beautiful property.

#2 Srinagar for a Yashraj-style filmy wedding
If you want a filmy wedding, Srinagar is another option. The Lalit is a beautiful hotel to stay in with its palatial gardens. Go for a romantic shikara ride, organise a cricket match for the Mehendi or just drive off to Pahalgoan or Gulmarg for the afternoon.

#3 Ranthambore for the tight-knit small wedding affair
For a small intimate wedding, I would recommend Ranthambore .The Aman-I-Khas is a quaint resort with beautiful tents – it’s the perfect offbeat destination.

Goa can never be overdone!!! I had mine in Goa..and though people say “oh Goa..been there done that” the vibe, once the guests reach there, is incomparable. Everyone is in shorts, in the water, drinking, dancing and generally making a vacay out of it instead of dressing up and wearing heavy clothes and insane amounts of jewelry atleast thats what happened during my wedding.

I’d do Jodhpur in a heartbeat…. but then – Delhi weddings have a charm of their own 😀
