What do Makeup Artists typically charge for bridal makeup in Delhi?
I finally called up my roka MUA and asked her how much she will charge for bridal makeup. She quoted INR 7,000 (excluding hairstyling) which I am not comfortable paying, considering a few months back I was her first client for a makeover at MAC. Am I being unfair?
Madonna at Kailash Colony market charges INR 10,000 for bridal makeup, hairstyle, hairwash, lehenga draping – the works. For the same services, b:blunt at Greater Kailash II charges INR 14,000 (they use only MAC products). But for both of them, you need to go to their parlor to get it done. I don’t know, I’m so confused! SOS fellow brides and MUAs!

Hey 7000 is quite reasonable IMO if it includes say hair/draping.
Most famous ones- like shalini singh, chandni singh, vidya all take 20K for makeup hair and draping. All id advise you is- dont have seperate makeup and hair artists unless both are coming to the venue and have worked with each other. Its kind of like creating one look cohesively, so both should understand your vision and be ready to travel-iotherwise yll go crazy getting makeu done at one place and rushing to next for hair!
Mine took 11 per function for hair+makeup+draping and she travelled to my venue and didnt charge me for the travel which was like really far !

The 7,000 does not include hair. She’ll come to my house on wedding day, so I don’t need to travel anywhere. I learnt my lesson during my roka, when I got my hair and makeup done from separate places – ended up getting really, really late for my own roka! Not doing that again for sure.
I’ve asked her to help me figure out who to get for hair, but I doubt if they would’ve worked together before. Do you think I should go for another “team” then?

Im trying to decide what is better- getting ready at home or at the salon? Im worried that thr may b 10,000 people at home and I dont want to be disturbed by Aunties asking for safety pins… But on the other hand, being at home is such a comfort- one less thing to worry about. So far, I have Ambika Pillai salon in mind which charges 12,000 for everythkng and I think it is pretty reasonable esp since the other artistes charge about 20k as Mehek mentioned.

Please mention name and number of the mua. I am not able to decide on which mua will be best suited as I have a little darker complexion and pigmentation. Also, I do not want the ones that go over the top with the loads of foundation and concealer.
Please give reference for a good mua. Shall I go for ambika jr or se. mua.

I think it is best to get the makeup and hair done at the same place by the same team. Most MUAs do that anyway. They should also include draping and nails in your package. Chandni Singh is fabulous but she is definitely not cheap. She charges 25K for smaller functions and 30K for the bridal. She has 2 assistants who help her with hair and nails. Make-up she handles completely herself. She also brings her own set up with a mirror, lights..even her own chair! She travels anywhere in the NCR. She is also very attentive to your requirements and takes time to understand what the bride needs.
I actually had a messy side bun done for my engagement and was unsure if she could pull it off. So on the eve of my engagement, I emailed her a picture of the hairstyle I wanted and within minutes she goes like, “I love it, we can totally tweak it according to your face shape etc”. I must say it was very comforting to know that she was completely in charge when I myself was freaking the hell out. LOL

Yes, she travels anywhere in Delhi-NCR. The charges cover everything.

Hey dis is what my research has yielded so far
Plum at GK, Suzzane(the main lady) charges 14k.. Senior artist 7k,junior artist 4k. This is inclusive of hair,nails, draping etc
Shalini singh charges about 20k..chandni singh about 25-30k..
Michelle montes- 11k. She is willling to travel to the venue but we have to provide the transport.
Makeup artists at Ambika Pillai, Vidya Tikari etc charges about 14-15k..
It definitely makes sense to get makeup and hair done at the same place!

Hey i spoke to Michelle Montes today.. She is based in east of kailash.. Normal charges for makeup hair and draping are 11k. Said she would need a total of three hours for everything. Does trials and charges three thou for them.. She does everything on her own though..

7k is pretty good for a MUA , ask her if she has a hair person. If you have tried her out and liked what she did then go ahead with her only. Don’t take last minute chances.
I am going ahead with my MUA that I had for the engagement, she is tried and tested and everyone liked what she did. She is a tad expensive 10-12k for smaller functions and 20k for wedding but her work is really good plus hair, makeup, lehenga draping everything is covered. (can send you a before and after picture if you want)
Main thing is if you were happy with her work take her on, on your wedding day makeup should be the least of your worriers.
Getting ready at home is more comfortable I think, just lock your room away from everyone else. that’s what I am gonna do 😉

I did quite a bit research about MUAs fro my cousing’s wedding in May. Ambika Pillai quoted 25000/-. She mentioned that she operates only out of the Qutab hotel salon and doesn’t travel to the venue. I have details about couple of other MUAs as well. Let me know if you want the full details.

I am yet to start with the MUA research. What is the general practice of having trials? What all do I ask?

Some allow for trials, some don’t. Some give free trials, some trials are paid. A free trial will obviously not be as carefully done as a paid trial (I’m only assuming this…never had a trial in my life). What you should do is – when you talk to a MUA, ask her “what’s your trial policy? Do you give trials at all? If you do, how much do you charge for them, and how much time before the wedding do you suggest we have the trial?” My personal opinion is that you should def have a trial. If anyone says they don’t do trials, ask them “but do you do a trial if I pay for it?” And obv, make sure that the amount they’re charging is much lesser than their actual wedding day charge. I just got married a few months back and I am sharing my personal reviews on all make up artist. I would like to mention I finally chose Chandni Singh and was superbly happy with everything.
More than make up I am sceptical about an artists hair styling skills. Some do it themselves some carry help. I have very scanty hair and am very particular about products they use for hair. Most people were using Chinese stuff which I hv never heard of. Also matrix seemed popular. Chandni was the only one who ws using Sebastian, kerastase and to my surprise she also had Moroccan oil on her, which most artists are not ever aware of! For make up my only demand was that I did not wish to look like a Christmas tree with over the top White foundation and red eye shadow.
I also went to gk 2 plum as she came highly recommended but was extremely disappointed to see a shady looking bridal album. Tacky is the word actually. That totally put me off. Also 70% of the images seemed like they were not of real brides but more like photo shoots. So I wasn’t convinced and did not choose plum. Vidya and ambika salons gave me all the information but obviously they dint sound professional enough – it’s like not knowing what you are selling. Anjelina was a complete put off- she sounded as if she would do me a favour if she did my make up! Anus place place was absolutely stunning but I could n ot have a word with anu so I was extremely uncomfortable to book her . I could not believe that she was unavailable to speak to for 5 days! I saw saline Singhs website too but there were very few images to see which again was not convincing. Meenakshi dutts salon came across like an over embellished drawing room and I wondered how I would look on my d day if this was her taste. Ashmeen munjaal?? I think all she has to her credit are those photogrAphs with movie stars. She has no idea what make up is all about.Michelle was sweet I was kinda bent towards her but then I spoke to chandni and was blown with the way she spoke to me. I could feel her compassion towards her work over the phone. I met her and though I had thought I will meet Michelle too before I decide I could not help but pay chandni an advance! She was charismatic is the word! My images are there on her website to see….all you girls out there in dilemma. – don’t think twice – chandni Singhs bridal skills rock!

Though I am pretty convinced about her skills after having a look at her website but i still wanted to know of other brides personal experiences. I know shes expensive but then who wants to take a chance to look like a disaster on their d day? Some of my other research about her also told me that she is a very reliable name in the fashion industry. Extremely punctual, gives attention to details & is an extremely stylish woman her self! Yep, she is a thorough professional. Very sweet too. Her timing is like clockwork. I was amazed that some people still understand the importance of arriving on time. On all occasions, I was ready by the dot, much to my parents’ delight. I hate doing things in a rush and like to leave ample time to relax/chat with friends and cousins in the green room.

Whatever you do do not use Vidya tikari´s Senior or Junior artists! I am not sure of Vithya tikari, she was too expensive to afford so I went with her Junior and Senior artists on two different days of my wedding..now I not good as doing my own makeup cos I hardly use anything more than a kajol stick and eyeliner..but on your wedding you want to look your best ever..and from the pictures I got later I was highly dissapointed….horrible makeup is all I can say!! and once while getting ready getting the girl helping me to drape my lehenga tried to steal my engagement ring!! long story..I finally got my ring bak cos I refused to leave till they found my ring! So A BIG NO !! WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE!!!

wow!! Your blog seems to be the apt place to get all bridal info! I just got fixed recently and to my complete surprise the date is in feb! So running around like a ma woman getting quotations from every vendor u can think of. Right now my priority is fixing my photographer and make up artist as i believe 20 and 21 feb are heavy wedding dates. i am looking at a candid photorapher who can capture moments and not just whatshappning there. Have gone through so many websites and love Photo tantra sspersonally. Also met this girl called bhumika, she does not have great experience but what ever little she has shown me is stunning and ofcourse is availabe for a astunning price. Like any woman make up remains of primary concern to me as i would ike to look like myself and not like an alien on my special days. yes i seem to agrre that regular salons cannot do a professional job when it comes to make up. SO obviously i am bent towards names like ambika pillai, vidya tikari and anu kaushik. ambika oflate does not seem to come highly recommended. vidya still seems to hv a good reputation. anu kaushik is terribly expensive for me. I believe Chandni Singh is launching her salon too . So am just confused with who to pick? Suggestions please.

My photographer Tarun Chawla bought along a girl called Bhumika for capturing candid moments, and she was really good! If this is the same Bhumika, then you can definitely try her out. She’s clicked some really good shots at my wedding. I love Photo Tantra as well, but they are really expensive. I think Vidya would be the best option, and I’ve heard Chandni Singh is amazing too – but both are slightly expensive.

Hey.. my wedding is in April and am looking for a MUA either based near dwarka or one who is willing to travel to my place. Also, since its a summer wedding i want someone whom i can rely on when it comes to the look. I don’t want to look like someone who has just gotten out of a glitter bag! I have never ever used make up in y life and have no clue as to what to do, where to go. Also, I’m working in Ahmedabad and would be flying in to delhi only two days before the wedding, so any tips on what and how many months before should i go for pre bridal here at Ahmedabad would be very helpful. My budget is pretty constrained and I would want a complete bridal/ enagagement/ reception package. Please help!

For pre-bridal, some people spread over their sessions over 6 months, and some (like me) spread it over 2 days in the week just before the wedding 🙂 I didn’t want to spend too much on pre-bridal since my skin usually behaves quite well. What’s your skin type? Prone to breakouts or usually clear?

On my roka ceremony recently, I tried Kriti dhir sharma. She kept my makeup quite subtle keeping in mind d function n charged 2100 only for makeup forever base, for Mac she charges 3500. I hv heard She travels too. For bridal,kriti charges 10k. U can also visit her Fb page.
I hv seen Rishabh khanna’s work too. He stays @ Patel nagar,Delhi n can travel. His work is worth mentioning here too. U can find Rishabh on fb.
I have personally seen der work n dey don’t make u luk lyk disco balls!

She is talented, punctual, open to suggestions and budget friendly. . I had the same criteria as you did. Did not want to look like a disco ball. She did a wonderful job i feel. Am writing in to personally thank every blog whos suggestions made it easier for me to plan my wedding. I went to 3 different make up artists for my hair and make up over all 3 occasions of mine and now that the pictures are here for me to see, I look the best on my reception day with hair & make up done by chandni Singh. I cant really bad mouth any other artists as it was my decision to hire them, after seeing their work. probably thats the best they could do ! also the whole salon experience was wonderful with chandni because it was just so spacious and clean & a highly efficient and well dressed staff!

Its amazing to see how make up/wedding blogs actually help brides to be, make an informed decision. Of course a word of mouth reference helps better. Chandni Singh came highly recommended to me by more than half a dozen women who had gotten dressed for their special occasions by her. I paid her a visit at her salon and was floored by her passion towards her work. Have booked her for all 3 of my functions scheduled in April + am also attending her make up workshop to learn ‘DIY’ make up skills. Her body of work is impressive to the hilt and her warmth and charm makes her an absolute delight to be with! Highly recommend her!

This blog seems really helpful. I am getting married this December in Delhi and choosing a make up artist seems like a really tough choice as I have always been just a kajal, eye-liner and lip balm person and do not know much about what suits me and what does not! It’ll be a Bengali wedding for me and I want to keep the make up subtle yet impactful and pretty.
I went through Chandni Singh’s page and it seems really appealing but is a tad beyond the budget that I’ve set. Michelle Montes is recommended by many but some of the brides done by her, especially Bengali brides seem to look a bit over the top (one of them is also known to me and though it’s a bit rude to say but on her wedding day she looked more like Goddess Durga than a bride to me!! :P) I am really confused.. If budget was not a constraint it would’ve been Chandni Singh hands-down for me.
Also I would like my wedding saree to be draped the Bengali style… I would really appreciate some suggestions. Any Bengali brides out there please??
And how do I go about it?? Do I need to go salon hopping or should I just talk on the phone and tell them my requirements…

I got my makeup done from b:blunt and was more than satisfied with their work – very subtle. But I’m not sure how much they know about Bengali wedding style. Maybe you can give them a call and find out?
You should also visit diaryofamadbride.com for bengali wedding info – she’s a recent bride herself and had a bengali wedding!
You can def call up salons on the phone, but you should either have them send you pictures of their portfolio, or go for a makeup trial. And since you’re a bride to be, you should def learn a little bit about about makeup, just the basics. It will help you a lot when you’re getting makeup done on your big day as your knowledge will help you guide the MUA about what you need.

Also, I was going through the page of Bosky and Richa from about faces and I quite liked one the Bengali brides done by them. Any review by others who may have tried them would be really helpful.

I’m getting married in December and just booked my mua. After a lot of deliberation..and almost finalising chandni singh..I went with this mua called guru. He’s a freelancer..saw his work at a friend’s wedding and loads of other people recommended him. Loveddd his work on my friend and his other bridal pics as well. Best part- he travels to the venue! (Which chandni doesn’t do anymore). His work is really subtle..listens to you. Now fingers crossed for how he turns out!

Hi Reetika, I had gone through this make up artists work too before i finalized on Chandni Singh. With no offence meant I found few of the pics with the foundation looking cakey. I also feel the whole experience of having a woman around who also pins your outfit in place very comforting. Also I feel going to a salon helps you get away from relatives who are staying with you at the time of your wedding. Chandni Singhs salon is heaven to be at. Spacious with a very attentive staff. Hi Tanvi!! Congratulations!! I was glad to see one post with his name recommended. He was on my shortlists too! I wanted a MUA who can come to venue and after doing a lot of research the names I had were:
1) Aakriti Koachar
2) Guru
3) Simran Kalra
4) Jyoti Kumar (Need to go to her house but she will cater to you only so still considering her)
Rest in the likes of Chandini singh, Ambika etc have venue traveling problem so I canceled them out.! I wanted some more feedback on your meeting with Guru, I am getting married in Feb!
Also if anyone has any other feedback for any of the above names pls do share to help finalise!
If someone is willing to travel to the salon then Sonia Chandolas work is also great and she charges 15k!

Hi priyanka.. I met guru a couple of weeks back and he made me feel super comfortable. I’ve booked him for my sagan and wedding both..he’s taking 25k for the wedding and 15 for the sagan. He told ne to get a couple of pictures for the kind of hair and makeup I liked and wanted. Discussed what I was comfortable with and not. I told him I’m not at all comfortable with red lipstick and he made me wear red lipstick n walk aroubd the whole day lol. I think you should definitely meet him once. I liked his work much more than aakriti’s.. he is much more subtle and understated. And yes I also recommend sonia.. if you’re willing to travel. I’m planning to book her for my cocktail.

Hence I am looking at these MUAs for wedding, since the shagan is in Gurgaon, I was thinking of going to parlor like plum/Vidya but since they also charge 10-15k, I may just close a freelancer for both days! I cant make it to Sonia since shes in Delhi for the shagan day so Ill meet Guru and am awaiting feedback on Jyoti and Simran too so will help close the loop!

I must say that is a lot of information under one roof. I read all of your comments and started calling all the MUA’s listed here. In my observation, Delhi bridal makeup artists are neck to neck when it comes to their charges ( what I mean is the popular MUA’s), the range for a wedding makeup is Rs. 20,000-Rs,30,000.
I personally prefer on location, so that I do not have to travel with my lehnga , jewellery in a car and last thing I would want is to get stuck in traffic. That is my personal opinion and I feel this is also one of the major reasons why we opt for personalised makeup artists, who anyways are more professional in my belief than any popular salon (or a makeup artist with a salon). I like the idea of a private affair and not being among 100 other brides running here and there in a salon for their hair , nails ,etc.
Coming back to the point, I made lots of calls and these are my shortlisted ones.
Chandni Singh is no doubt remarkable for her talent and approach. She has set up a beautiful studio but makes me sad I cant opt for her since I want it on location and she does not do that anymore.
Next on the list was , Aakriti Kochar. I met her personally and cant deny, quite impressive and convincing she looked. For a makeup artist , I believe you can look at their style and figure what you’re going to get from them. Aakriti looks promising , very stylish. Her work is also much appreciated from what I grasp over the internet and some acquaintances. (Most probably, I am going to book her for my 3 functions)
Ambika Pillai, very experienced lady. Went to her new studio and it was over whelming to see the no. of brides she gets ready in one day. I dont mean to look down upon her work but in my opinion, all the brides looked just the same. And another reason like I mentioned before is I want my privacy which I wont find in between 100 other brides. Her style of makeup hasnt evolved over years. We all prefer subtle looks which is not what I saw in her work. But nevertheless, I see she has a lot of work so obviously people appreciate her style of work. But definitely not my style!
I have 2 more meetings due this week before finalising my MUA. I shall keep you updated.

When I met her , I had some looks in mind which I discussed and she explained me few looks for my 3 wedding functions according to my face shape , color etc. They were quite convincing. I must compliment you on your blog firstly. It has all vital information that a bride and a make up junkie could ask for. I got married many years back and then the only 2 people who were prominent in the world of make up were Ambika & Vidya. I had opted for Vidya then as I found her work better but was hugely disappointed when all my pleas to keep the make up simple were ignored. To my horror she wasnt even there once she had completed my make up as per her style. My younger sister got fixed a few months back and we set out to do our share of research for every vendor on earth. For make up we fixed Chandni Singh and she was spectacular. I got dressed by her senior assistant and my mom had used the junior artist services and we were mighty pleased. Every request was heard and attended too and I must say her salon is out of the league. Beautiful vintage decor and huge! A must visit!

Thanks to this post and everyone’s comments here, I have finally been able to shortlist Simran Kalra to do my wedding makeup. There have been several references of her in this blog. I am going to be her first bengali bride and for a change I was someone who wanted the forehead designs (which most girls choose to skip these days). But what was good was that she was quite upbeat about doing something new. She gave me a trial and also scheduled a meeting with her draping lady so I was comfortable with everything. She also makes a patient listener and was willing to listen to me (which was a welcome change as most MUAs I had spoken with were more keen to make me go for the sans forehead design look),
About the makeup that she does.. of course, it is not loud and looks good. I got a mixed opinion about the pictures of the makeup trial from my family and friends (but that again covered just half the face which was also a reason). In our second meeting, after she tried the forehead patterns, I was impressed with her effort.
All in all, thumbs up to her for her willingness to listen and learn. I will be going to her this week to finalize my booking 🙂
I now hope that everything falls in place on the D-day!! Wish me luck everyone…

Hi all the newbie brides! 🙂 I love the blog and so totally hooked to it! So coming to the point, I would want to tell a little of what I have picked up from here and there.
2 of my closest friends got done their bridal from Vidya, one of them looked stunning and the other looked good but not out of the world. 2 of my other friends got it done from Ashmeen Munjal, one was blingy and beautiful and other bright and pretty, so if you are in West Delhi you may want to check her out. Another close friend got her makeup and hair done from Looks Salon Noida and she had quite a glow!
I am getting married this Nov and have started my hunt on the MUA, have met Michelle Montes and Chandni Singh. Hugely impressed by Chandni Singh however she doesn’t travel to the venue which is a slight challenge. Michelle will travel charges comparatively lower. Going to meet Aakriti Kochhar and Shalini Singh this week, will keep you girls posted!

I don’t think they do. But you should try out their Vasant Vihar branch – charges are lesser. My SIL got her hair and makeup done from there on our reception, and she looked fabulous!

My first choice wz Kriti n I booked her for my roka ceremony n frankly neither I nor my family lykd wat she did.
So I finalised another gal, Pooja after a trial for airbrush makeup. And man! She rocked it beyond my xpctations!!

On my roka ceremony recently, I tried Kriti dhir sharma. She kept my makeup quite subtle keeping in mind d function n charged 2100 only for makeup forever base, for Mac she charges 3500. I hv heard She travels too. For bridal,kriti charges 10k. U can also visit her Fb page.
I hv seen Rishabh khanna’s work too. He stays @ Patel nagar,Delhi n can travel. His work is worth mentioning here too. U can find Rishabh on fb.
I have personally seen der work n dey don’t make u luk lyk disco balls!

I’ve been following this blog for quite sometime now, my wedding is in December. I’ve been looking for a make up artist for my self. I have been researching for a bit and met a few artists as well. The only thing Ive found common in some is that their make-up style is quite gaudy, also they are a little stubborn about their style of work. A friend of mine also got married recently who hired Aakriti Kochar for her cocktail and wedding. I met with her and explained exactly what I want. I researched her and her looks , I liked her style. Her make up is not at all gaudy and she gives avery classy yet simple look. She doesnt hide your natural features and in short doesnt make you look like a clown which Im sorry to say but most artists in Delhi do these days. The only drawback and weird thing I found was that Aakriti doesn’t give trials. But on looking through her work I was convinced she was what I was looking for. She is expensive I agree but she seems to be worth it. She has quoted a price of approx Rs.20000 for my cocktail and Rs25000 for my wedding since I’ve opted for the airbrush package. She is young but she has a good experience. On talking with her I found out she is the head make up artist and spokesperson for Oriflame India. It was quite assuring to know she has done make up for names like Demi Moore, Kate Moss and Mrs.Roberto Cavalli for a wedding in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. So how much could go wrong? lol.
She made me feel comfortable and like doctors these days its important that a make up artist makes a bride feel the same way for the most important day in her life.

I’m getting married in Nov’13 and looking for a MUA. From all the posts here, I selected Aakriti Kochhar and contacted her. But since, the wedding is not in Del/NCR, her charges are around 30k (for air-brush)–quite a hole in my pocket!
Anyone has an idea about her senior makeup artists? Do they follow the same principles and are they good enough?

I met Aakriti Kochar , for my wedding functions in January’14. I can vouch for her work because I have seen it live on my friends. Her style of work is how I like, subtle and just the correct amount of makeup. Not loud , Nothing !
Go ahead and visit her facebook page – Aakriti Kochar make up and hair (search) , there are a lot of bridal pictures there. In my opinion you should meet her and then book her. Also, I have booked her sister Tanvi for my sister, mom and other family members. Rest, I’ll keep you all updated with my wedding photos.

Now I’m really confused with my MUA for my wedding due in April ’14 (I know its a bit too early!). Also, I’v realized the renowned ones revise their charges every 6-7 months so by the time I realized all famous ones like Chandini, Michelle, Vidya are over 30k now.
Can anyone please advice if I should go with the Junior or senior artists of the big names or should take up some independent freelancer!
I stay near new friends colony in south Delhi, so some options in vicinity please!

I really like Meenakshi dutt’s make up!i love the way she does the eye make up of her brides! I so wish I had come across this page a couple of months back while I was researching on make up artist for my Wedding day. As assured by my wedding planner I went for Sylvie in GK2 instead of Vidya tikari and chandni Singh. I did speak to chandni Singh and she sounded pretty good, but she refused to the location for makeup n I was skeptical to travel all the way to her salon in the summer heat of Delhi. Vidya tiwari was not taken as I was unable to talk to her before booking her. I managed to met sylvie and regret not listening to my instinct. On the sangeet day she made me look like a Snow White with my make up leaving imprint on my brother and father’s coats when I hugged them. She couldn’t even drape the lehenga properly , which was also an issue on the wedding day. The hairstyle was also pretty okay compared to all that she promised. To up it all she quotes my 30k for makeup in studio and 60k for makeup at the location and finally i get a bill of 1.2 lakhs. I was so furious to be made a fool in term of my make up, draping, hairstyle and cherry on the cake was the bill. I would never recommended her/him and neither is her name mentioned. 😦
I left everyone had better makeup in the wedding than I did, especially my sister for whom we could some simple, but good makeup artist.

I am getting married in April 2014. I know it is a lil too early to start looking out for an MUA but this is biggest concern area I have. With so many artists, veterans and freelancers it is becoming difficult to choose one from. I want my MUA to travel to the location (within delhi)and my budget is between 15-20 k. she’s done a makeup course from chandni singh, who is one of the best MUAs in Delhi. And her portfolio on Facebook looks good. You should check it out, and then go for a trial.

Hey…great blog Delhi Bride!!!..i must say i was absolutely clueless about most stf so thanks for all the info!….i was looking at Simran Kalra as my MUA however got a very strange response from her!..at first she wasnt sure if she was free on that date and then told me ” she is free currently however in case she gets multiple bookings then i will have to come to her house to get ready” !!!…dont think after paying soo much i wud want to go and get ready with a bunch of other brides in her house!!

Hey! I have acne scars on my face as well and in my opinion any make up artist can handle this kind of situation. All you need it a good foundation and concealer to provide u a nice even skin tone and by no means u need to have a cakey look for that!! I do my own make up on daily basis and my MAC foundation provides me a very good coverage and i have suggested my MUA artist to use a similar foundation during my bridal makeup . So just talk to the MUA (whoever u chose for ur bridal makeup) about it, tell her to use a foundation with a good coverage, some concealer and powder to set it and that is all :). If possible, get a trial before finalizing her, take photos after trial to see how natural or caky ur skin looks in photos.

Hey! I wouldn’t recomment Riya for bridals. Her make up is too cakey and leaves the brides looking very white-ish in the lights.
You should go for Simran Kalra or maybe even Sakshi Sagar both of them are really good with bridal makeup and are pretty much Value-for-money. Check out their fb page to see more.

I am testing out makeup artists for my wedding which is in March. I am going for a trial with Pooja Khurana of Pooja&Misha makeup artists. She was recommended to me but there is not much on her in terms of reviews- has anyone heard of her and is she any good?
She sounds very nice and has even said she will return the trial amount if I book her…her charges too are quite reasonable. I want someone who will let me look liike me…not a christmas tree!

i would have booked for for bridal as well but she has a littly modern touch and i wanted a tradition thing to my bridal..
so have fixed up Riishab Khanna for the same.. Aakriti, Jitin rathore have all has been trained under him.
for Ambika, i saw her live work and my friend was looking white make up kit with no shade at all…
this female younten is great for a lower budget and is awsome with her make up.. a lot of my colleagues have got ready from her!!

I only mean to warn you that Rishab Khanna has bailed out on two of my friends bookings last minute. He is quite a charmer when you talk to him. He told me he trained 4-5 other artists as well which was a lie when I asked them directly. Check your sources before booking and consult other artists about Rishab too.

I got married recently and this blog proved to be an excellent resource! It’s so great to be able to read up on the experience and advice of other brides when you’re preparing to tie the knot yourself.
Now that I’ve been there and done that, I would like pen down some recommendations of my own 🙂
As far as make-up artists go, I would wholeheartedly recommend Aakriti Kochhar. After extensive research and going through many options for make-up artists, I narrowed down on Aakriti. I decided to meet her in person before I booked her, which turned out to be a great idea. She put me at ease the minute we met and inspired confidence in the way she spoke and the advice she gave me as per my face structure and hair. She was also very patient in hearing me out about what I expected from her.
I decided to book her for my engagement and wedding day make-up and she did an excellent job for both! Not only did the make-up and hair turn out to be great..she also impressed me with how punctual, organized and professional she was. She and her team reached the venue well before time to set-up and prep. She used excellent products and went out of her way to make sure I was satisfied with the final look. She took into account all my feedback and also gave some excellent advice wherever necessary. It was so refreshing to work with an artist who understood the meaning of understated and natural make-up. Her assistant Soni who did my hair was also very efficient. I’ve noticed how even established make-up artists often don’t have good people at hand to style your hair and that ends up ruining your entire look…but that thankfully wasn’t the case here. She gave me exactly the look I wanted for my hair.
I was pleasantly surprised when on both days people came up to me to compliment me not just about my overall look but specifically about my make-up as well.
I must also put in an extra word for the rest of her team, including her sister Tanvi, who did the make-up for my bridesmaids. They were all equally professional and made sure the bridesmaids looked ravishing as well.
On the whole I am extremely satisfied with the services I received and would recommend that every bride-to-be consider Aakriti for her big day!

You must try Rishab Khanna. He is fabulous i recently got married and hired him for four functions. at first i thought i should book a diff artist for each function so i can get a diff look at each function but when i met Rishab he was so good at actually explaining how he is going to design a different look for each function considering the theme and my outfit and mostly everything revovlving around my taste and comfort. He made me look the best at each function my makeup could not have been better. Must call him you can even have a look at his facebook page its called makeup by rishab khanna

just read your comment and though of informing you about Kesar (senior MUA) she is works in Monsoon Salon, CP. I got my Bridal & Reception make up done from her.. and believe me..she is really good. as this is a salon so they can also offer you pre-bridal and all.
For bridal: Rs.12,000 Approx
For sagan/reception: Rs.10,000 Approx
I don’t remember but i guess pre-bidal was for Rs. 10,000.
I Guess they have 10 branches in Delhi, i an sure you will find one near to your place.

Hi Jasmine, I am also getting married in November this year and currently doing extensive research on MUA. You can check Anu Kaushik , her work is brilliant but she charges 50K and her senior artist charge 25K. If you are looking for a mid segment MUA then I would suggest GURU, Aakriti and Shruti Sharma, all three are great (charging 15K to 25K each). You can also consider Simran Kalra her brides are pretty and accentuates natural features of her brides. Saw Guru’s work for one of my friends and loved it, his normal as well as air brush was equally good.

Hope you all are doing well with wedding preparations. I am so glad to find this blog as I have no clue about Indian ceremonies, dress , makeup etc. I have few queries hoping I will get some directions here.
Wedding Date: 22nd Dec 2014, Venue: Resort around Chattarpurr , Delhi. We do not reside in India so trying anything is quite difficult until we reach there on 1st of Dec. Specially dress & makeup.
Queries along with requirements:
1) Bridal Makeup: Get one person to do makeup, hair & dressing up part. Natural makeup not overly done or loud and too colorful. Makeup must go with my bridal dress. Happy to travel to salon but will prefer someone who can travel to the hotel. Not too expensive. Also I have sensitivity issues with products that has chemicals so I would prefer more natural products or I am happy to buy my own products if he MUA cannot supply them. Also not sure what brands offer natural makeup products in India any advice on this will be great too. I currently use Dr Hauschka or Jurlique but any other suggestions will be great. Can I book MUA when I reach India or is it too late as there will be only 15 days to wedding after Trials etc? Budget upto : 20K also upto 5K additional for bridesmaid.
2) Bridal Indian dress: Where should I start looking I do not want many colours in one outfit. Max of two colours & not overly heavy. Something that does not make me feel like I am 5 Kgs heavier than my normal weight. Something elegant & simple although still maintaining bridal look.
3) Decoration of wedding venue: We like simple decorations. Like I want huge vases on every table with one coloured flowers depends on my dress. Some flower garland & bit of decoration around the mandap & food area. But nothing too tacky. Any ideas of costs and ideas on designs that look Indian in style maintaining modern twist. No idea of budget as yet say 50 K.
4) Wedding Photographs & video: Looking for nice photographer that takes natural clicks rather than staged. Capture emotions rather than poses. Any ideas where should we start looking. And videos should not have loud music something that sounds smooth. No idea of budget as yet.
5) DJ or music arrangements: Can we choose our songs for different parts of wedding like the entry of groom and bride , garland exchange ceremony etc? what type of music arrangements will be great DJ or live music or not too overly expensive either. Budget upto 15K -20K .
Any suggestions or advice will be great ladies.

Would suggest the following for you:-
1. Bridal Make up:- To book a MUA once you reach India would be difficult to get a good one as MUA get booked months in advance. Basis my research you can check Sonia Chandola (fb page https://www.facebook.com/sonia.chandola?fref=ts), Shalini Singh, Anjum bhardwaj. If you can increase your budget a bit then you can try to book GURU and Aakriti, both do fabulous make up.
2. Bridal Dress:- Bridal dresses are best decided when you see them yourself as colors etc are not that clear in pictures. You can try stores like Gyans, Frontier Raas etc. (Though we in Delhi don’t finalise lehengas till we visit Chandni Chowk, once atleast)
3. Decoration :- Not much research done as we have booked venues everything inclusive but you can reach out to Ankur Bansal (http://poojamoviecreations.in/events.html), they are into event organisation, decorations and catering etc. Planning to get my Mehendi booked through them.
4. Wedding Photography & Videos:- Have done a detailed analysis of so many photographers and met close to 5 to 7, before booking MM Studio finally. They have new concepts of cinematography etc. plus they would customise the package for you as per your requirements (Gaurav – main contact person is really helpful and will give so many wonderful concepts that you would love it) check their FB Page https://www.facebook.com/pages/Malhotra-Movies-MM-Studio/184492701588415 and do watch their cinematographic videos.
5. DJ: Usually the decorators you book would provide you this and yes you can definitely tell them songs of your choice and what to play at what part of ceremony.

Hi! I got married in December’14 and here’s my experience
Engagement makeup: Tejasvini Chander
She is good! It was a day function and my makeup was a hit. She is a thorough professional- and this may not sound that important right now but trust me, with all the pre-wedding jitters and pressure, it is SO important that your makeup artist makes things easier for you.
On my engagement, she had come with an assisting artist who was very well trained. They gave me just the look i wanted- fuss free.
The best part was they had a great coordination among themselves so I was ready well in time and smoothly.
My bridal makeup experience was very different. I booked Rishab Khanna in September. And for the price you pay (25k is not meagre for me) the least you deserve is a good experience and your money’s worth.
The deal was that I would get ready at his place in Patel Nagar, and that’s the reason I preferred him because my venue was close by. But what happens when a mua bites off more than he can chew?
1. Without speaking to me, he changed the venue to Grand Vasant (22km from my home). And it was only when i asked him a day before the wedding what time i should come he told me about the change and it was because it suited his ‘other brides’ (other THREE).
He sent his driver to pick and drop me at the venue later but it was highly annoying to travel so much on a day there were so many wedding.
2.My sisters who were not accompanying me earlier had to accompany me because of the distance, had to cancel their makeup appointments with other artist and get ready by Rishab (not cheap, trust me).
3. Didn’t do my nails (for 25k, i feel thats a huge price to pay!) cuz there was no time in between brides and their families! The bride before me was supposed to be ready by 5 but he took his own sweet time with her (I could see he was her family friend) and her sister and he wasn’t free before 6:30.
I had to be ready by 7:30 (he did do the job in an hour- not that i really admire that NOW). And there was a bride after me. So I had to go with 4-days old nail paint. Not a pretty sight and I got asked by people on why i didnt put on a matching naiplaint.
4. Made me look a shade darker- If you have seen 5 star hotel rooms- you would know how dimly lit they are. When tejasvini did my makeup, she had got portable makeup light mirror. Not the case here. Bottomline- thanks to that dimly lit room I ended up looking dark. The rest of the makeup was fine.
5. He had an assitant who was doing hairdos. She could have done my nails easily but no! Sheer lack of consideration and coordination.
6. Last- the room that i was getting ready in was such a ruckus. Two brides, my sisters, the other bride’s sister’s small kids and a maid all in one room.
Thank God i took my sisters along otherwise I would have broken down there in the hotel room.

Hey everyone.. So finally I booked Bobby Chopra for my bridal makeup.. I had seen her work on her FB page and so the decision.. plus she travels to the venue, which was the most important consideration for me.. Now for the experience..
She did a good job.. I did not want very heavy makeup or the “fair” look, she took into account my inputs and did the work accordingly.. We had a little disagreement on the lipstick shade (which made her say I was one of the fussiest brides she’d met :D) but that went off smoothly too… Bobby had an assistant for the hairdo.. He was a little rigid in his ideas and had to be forced to make the bun the way I wanted..
The only con was the timing.. Bobby was almost 1 and half hour late than the scheduled time..
Overall I am extremely satisfied with Bobby’s bridal makeup and would recommend it to other brides as well! 🙂

I am a maid of honor who is looking for a talented make up artist for my sisters D-Day for the bride and me.
We have been looking around on every website and are so confused. I am in love with Chandni Singhs work but as we all know she refuses to travel and charges 30k for her services which are ridiculously high.
My sisters phere are around 5 in the evening which will be followed by the reception at the same venue (tivoli chattarpur) She just wants to change her blouse and the dupatta draping with some touch up ofcourse.
The wedding is on November 27th but we do not reside in India, Hence want to book someone asap and move on to next planning. If you all can suggest a good make up artist who can help both of us for the day.

That’s the only thing chhavi I was worried about! She did more then 20 brides on my wedding day, so I don’t think she will be totally booked! Go ahead and try and be on time when they call you. The only thing that is a drawback is that you will have to wait for hours! Rest perfection to T. You can’t complain with her work.

Oh! I am so sorry to hear that Chhavi cos recent work of a lot of “famous” ones has been disappointing like I have seen… You may however try Ratul Makeover artist. He is good. Oh! and in Rohini there is Krussh by Konikaa in M2K Rohini. She is decent too but I feel she is a bit over priced. You can check both there Fb pages. WHat time is Kriti giving you cos anyways she calls her brides about 2-3 and then your turn comes at about 5,6 or even 7(if u are late by half an hour) which happened with me! Good luck!

Its quite a personal choice Chhavi but i just don’t like her work, she is soo much over the top and I saw her work on my friend at her sis wedding and I hated it. She made her all green green cos of her green outfit and I was like , she better just wore a Kajal instead of this. She is dusky and I have seen a major thing with her on dusky girls, which can done so so beautifully but she caked her up! so my personal no no to her! and I don’t know about the later, Try Ratul makeover artist. If he is free , he wont disappoint! Check his FB page.

I got married last month and hired Aakriti Kochar for my engagement and wedding function. I am really really happy with her work and would strongly recommend her. She does a very subtle, classy make up, travels to the venue, arrives well on time. She understood all my needs and did a fab job.

I came across this blog post looking for bridal MUAs and found a lot helpful information. However, I do not see a lot of posts from 2015. I am getting married in December 2015 and was looking for a good MAU for my wedding. My budget is under 20K and the person should be willing to travel to the venue- Greater Noida. I put up in East Delhi and haven’t really started my research on MUA. I have a wheatish skin tone with oily skin. I am really scared of getting a cakey makeup done.
