Trousseau Destination – Hauz Khas Village #1: Rewaz by Dolly J

The first time I ever visited Hauz Khas Village was a few weeks ago (yes, you read right – a few weeks ago for the very FIRST time). I don’t know how I managed to live under a rock for so long, but I genuinely had no clue that such a great shopping district for Indian wear existed so close to my house. I visited just 3 shops here, and they were all great. Today, I’ll tell you about Rewaaz by Dolly J.

This shop has great, great, GREAT lehengas! I found a gorgeous off-white, red and blue wedding lehenga – it was so nice that I started re-considering the wedding lehenga I had already placed an order for at Chandni Chowk! The price of this lehenga was close to my chosen wedding lehenga as well. I thought it looked great on me, and that I looked very bridal in it. Eventually, I let it go only because my mother told me that although this one looked great as well, the one I had already chosen looked like it was made for me. Now after hearing her say that, how could I possibly want any other lehenga?

But this shop is great for Indian wear. They have some really nice lehengas, albeit expensive ones. But they’re not Sabyasachi type expensive – the cheapest and simplest lehengas were around INR 35,000, with some really nice ones at the INR 60,000 range. The designs are quite gorgeous, so it’s definitely worth a look. Another reason you should visit is that the designs are not typical ones. You see, I think the lehengas in most South Extension stores mimic each other. You’ll get more or less the same, typical designs all over South Extension – from Frontier Raas to Ushnak Mal. And copies of all these designs are available at Chandni Chowk. At the end of the day, a lot of the designs at South Extension and Chandni Chowk are just copies of designer wear (such as Manish Malhotra and Sabyasachi). Rewaaz is also designer-wear, but designer-wear that we can afford (or atleast, most of us) – and they have their own designs. They don’t seem to copy anyone, but don’t take my opinion too seriously as I only have so much awareness of fashion designers and their bridal wear (which is not much).

If you are one of those brides who doesn’t want the typical chamki (bling-ed out) lehenga – you just might find your wedding lehenga here. And this is definitely the right place to go look for your sangeet lehenga (of course, you need to be willing to spend over INR 40,000 on your sangeet outfit).
